This group was established to support women who have an attraction to other women. The group includes both undergraduate and graduate women. We gather periodically for discussion, to build community, and offer support.
Many women who love women on the Duke campus feel isolated and as though they are the only one who feels this way (no matter how they identify: Bisexual, lesbian, questioning, queer, trans, no labels please). So, if you are looking to be a part of such a support network please join us. We also believe in having fun along the way!
Fall 2009 Schedule
Getting to Know You: A question game (Thursday, September 10th, LGBT Center)
Come join us for the first gathering of the new academic year! Meet new people or catch up with your buddies from last year. We will engage in some games to get everyone involved and also give everyone a chance to get to know a bit about each other.
Out and Proud: A Conversation with Jen Brody, Sharon Holland, Lea Salas, and Cris Rivera (Thursday, October 8th, LGBT Center)
How do LGBTQ Women navigate their lives both at work and in the community? Two Duke faculty, an alum, and a former employee will join us to share how they live their lives very openly and are also involved in advocating for LGBTQ rights.
Sexual Fluidity: I Can Be Attracted to Whomever I Want! (Thursday, November 5th, LGBT Center)
Sexual attraction is a very powerful and sometimes surprising thing. How is the sex or gender identity of your sexual partner related to your sexual orientation? Does it matter how you identify…Bisexual…Lesbian…Queer…Curious???? Find out how woman-to-woman relationships have been described over time from romantic friendships to butch/femme to Boston marriages to lesbian hookups.
There’s no Place Like Home…Or Is there? (Thursday, December 3rd, LGBT Center)
Going Home for Break and feeling stressed out? Let’s get together and have some fun helping each other figure out what to do when: You are ready to leave after the first two days but your ticket is for two weeks away…your parents ask you for the 1000th time if you are dating anyone…your sister tells your parents some girl keeps calling you…your mother wants to know when you started wearing guy’s clothes…you accidentally leave your copy of Curve on your bed.
