Lavender Graduation Highlights
On May 11th six undergraduate students and one graduate student were recognized for completing their educations at Duke as members of the LGBTQA community. A Duke alum, Samuel Johnson, gave the graduation remarks to a Center full of supporters. Mr. Johnson had written a series in The Chronicle in the 70s related to his experience of being gay on the Duke campus. Each student was recognized for their individual achievements and contributions and presented with a certificate. Special recognition was given to the following for their outstanding contributions to LGBT life on campus: Outstanding Faculty Members: Robyn Wiegman and Matt Brim; Outstanding Staff: Polly Weiss and Sam Hull. Felicia Kornbluh and Damon Seils were also recognized for their leadership of the campus LGBT task force. Thanks to Maddie Dewar for her coordinating of this very special event.
